“Cats are increasingly popular pets; in 2009 Australian households owned 2.35 million cats, in 2012 their number had increased to 3.3 million (source: Pets Australia). Cats are therefore likely to be presented to veterinarians more frequently, often with diseases or injuries that require complex treatments. Now, finally, a textbook on feline soft tissue surgery has been published! Cat-specific textbooks on internal medicine and orthopaedic surgery are already available, but this book is the missing link to a complete feline practice library. Together with the companion book Feline orthopedic surgery and Musculoskeletal Disease, the whole array of surgical conditions in cats is covered.

There are many soft tissue surgery conditions that are unique to cats; the more common examples are hyperthyroidism, megacolon, injection-site sarcomas, and upper and lower urinary tract disease. Feline soft tissue and general surgery is a comprehensive text that is pleasurable to read because of the many illustrations, photos and case examples. All the editors and the 60 authors of the book are accomplished specialists in feline medicine or surgery, with a wealth of experience in their fields. By passing on their in-depth knowledge, they have created a state-of-the-art textbook.

The book is divided into seven sections, which are colour-coded for easy orientation. Sections 1 and 2 cover general aspects of soft tissue surgery, such as anesthesia and postoperative care, and diagnostics including diagnostic imaging and endoscopy. Section 3 covers oncological surgery and adjuvant therapy, section 4 is skin and adnexa, sections 5 and 6 address the abdomen thorax, respectively, and section 7 entails surgery of the head and neck. The sections are further divided into different chapters according to body systems. Within each body system, specific surgical anatomy of the cat, general considerations and diagnostic methods, a summary of surgical diseases and the surgical techniques are described. The text is fully referenced.

A great feature of this book is the boxes within each chapter in which the surgical techniques are described in detail in a ‘how-to-do’ approach. The descriptions are nicely illustrated with medical illustrations or photos. The reader will find many surgical tips for all levels of skill to facilitate difficult steps of the procedures. The selection of techniques is comprehensive and ranges from basic skin surgeries and neutering through intermediate-level head and neck and intestinal surgery to more specialist-level surgery, for example of the thorax, the ureters and the adrenal glands.

The book is relevant to a wide audience because both basic and advanced techniques with the relevant background knowledge are described, so there is useful information for students, newly graduated and experienced veterinarians, and specialists. This book should not be missing from the library of any small animal or mixed veterinary practice that is performing general or soft tissue surgery in cats. About the Author

Judy Strauss is Associate Professor of Marketing at the University of Nevada, Reno. She is an award winning author of 12 books and numerous academic papers in Internet marketing, advertising, and marketing education. Strauss is co-author of the trade book Radically Transparent: Monitoring and Managing Reputations Online, and textbooks Building Effective Web Sites and the E-Marketing Guide. She has had many years of professional experience in marketing, serving as entrepreneur as well as marketing director of two firms. She currently teaches undergraduate and M.B.A. courses in marketing communications, Internet marketing, and marketing management and has won two college-wide teaching awards. Strauss earned a doctorate in marketing at Southern Illinois University, and a finance M.B.A. and marketing B.B.A. at University of North Texas.

Raymond D. Frost is a Professor of Management Information Systems at Ohio University. He has published scholarly papers in the information systems and marketing fields and is an associate editor of The Journal of Database Management. Frost is co-author of Building Effective Web Sites and the E-Marketing Guide. Dr. Frost teaches database, electronic commerce, and information design courses. He has received Ohio University’s Presidential, University Professor, College of Business, and Senior Class teaching awards. Dr. Frost is working on publications in data modeling and database pedagogy. He is co-author of a forthcoming book, A Visual Introduction to Database: An E-Business Perspective. Dr. Frost earned a doctorate in business administration and an M.S. in computer science at the University of Miami (Florida), and received his B.A. in philosophy at Swarthmore College.

Decent but lacks real-world applicability and nuts-and-bolts

This book provides a lot of background on e-marketing for someone who has little knowledge of marketing which is part of its downfall because it spends too much time on basics. What this book lacks is a detailed explanation of applicable material to prepare a person to create an e-marketing business plan and then effectively implement it with real world tools. Having read this book as part of an MBA program, I was disappointed at the lack of explanation on the process of connecting websites with social media with mobile devices, etc. Don't get me wrong, it touched on it, but I was looking for the nuts-and-bolts and this gave the view from 5000 feet.

I am using this book for my e-marketing class, and I have to say it is "O.K.". It is a very interesting book, but everything in it is black and white (isn't marketing usually more on the flashy, and colorful side?). The statistics and information in the book is very old (2011 ish).
Altogether good book, and I think I would even buy it without having to use it for class

A Significant Historic Contribution

Dr. Patterson's King James VI and I and the Reunion of Christendom is a significant contribution to the volume of works written about early 17th Century . The work shows that James tried to acheive an ecumenical union among the fractured states of Europe in a century that saw one crisis after another. The incredible amount of research that went into this book is clearly evident. This would make an excellent addition to anyone's library.

Don't waste your money!

This book was not particularly helpful at all. The content was not well organized, and much of the information was subjective. There is very little content referring to the eye/vision, and very little that is actually helpful in answering the practice questions. The information seemed thrown together and random in terms of the sequence of sections. The practice questions and the answer explanations are the only thing that stopped me from giving this book one star instead of two. But after taking the test, I will say that the actual test questions were quite different from those in the book. Thankfully I did get a passing score on the test, but honestly I give this book little to no credit for that. Very poorly done and a waste of money.
