About the Author
James Harvey Robinson (June 29, 1863-February 16, 1936) Robinson was an American historian and philosopher, born in Bloomington, Illinois. He taught history at the University of Pennsylvania (1891-95) and Columbia University (1895-1919), he became fulltime professor in 1895. Following a series of faculty resignations from the astute Columbia University over disputes about academic freedom, (This included the resignation of Charles Beard), Robinson resigned from Columbia in May of 1919 and became one of the founders of the New School for Social Research. To which he received the honor of being its first director. A man truly ahead of his time. His writings and lectures, stressed the "new history" evolution of humanity. He was a pivotal player and an important influence on the study and teaching of history. As a new thought teacher he stressed the principles of metaphysics and other new age sciences. His body of work is not only considered groundbreaking but genius as well.

Historical Perspective

I looked at this book in the context of a research paper on the Scopes Trial and American reginalism and fundamentalism. It is helpful in understanding the perspective of the ACLU, who was behind the prosecution of Scopes. The ACLU, like many intellectuals at the time, was informed by James H. Robinson's new (at the time) book, The Mind in the Making, which painted personal liberty as being on the defensive ever since the first World War. Robinson described personal liberty as being severely threatened by the breaches of personal freedom which occured during the war. If you're trying to get a feel for the intellectual climate in the 1920's, this is a good place to start.

A powerful book

It is no surprise that I love books. Occasionally, I will stumble upon a book which I never heard of but seems to strike enough interest to be purchased and read. This book was one of those books. I pleasantly surprised by the very appropriate insights and understanding from a book written several decades earlier. In an age where simplicity seems to trump scientifically supported ideas, it is no wonder some of these gems of understanding slip quickly beneath the radar while some age old and unproven ideas from the past seem to never lose popularity. GREAT READ! ~Troy

Mind in the Making

I read Robinson's book for freshman English in 1959, and I still remember the author's name and the title of the book. However, the content now (2012) eludes me. I do know, however, that I had underlined all the words I did not know, and when I read the book 20 years later (it's now lost) I was amazed how many words that are now part of my speaking vocabulary that I did not know.

Reverend Menaldino's family, appreciating the depth and wisdom of his teachings, frequently encouraged him to publish his writings. Although he did not live to see this publication the family is hopeful these letters will bless, guide and strengthen readers in their walk of faith. Reverend Edward E. Menaldino was born in Flushing, New York, served in the Air Force in WWII, earned two degrees at Central Bible College (now incorporated into Evangel University) in Springfield, Missouri, and received training in counseling at the University of Minnesota. An evangelist and recorded singer in his early years of ministry in both Canada and the United States, he accepted pastoral positions in San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Philadelphia. During his long tenure as pastor in Philadelphia, he was in demand in Poland, Germany, India and Italy as a special speaker and teacher at Bible schools and in churches. He served for several years as District Presbyter for the Assemblies of God Pennsylvania-Delaware District. His wife of over 6o years passed away in 2010. Reverend Menaldino passed away in 2012 at the age of 85 years and is survived by 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren..

The insights found in each monthly letter are so insightful and and full of wisdom. He was my Mentor and Spiritual Father and I will always be indebted to him and his whole family. This book is a must read for anyone who enjoys finding hidden truths and practical advice from God Word.

Don't attempt to conjure prices on your own, as you will certainly miss something. Get this book for your Handyman business.

I was going to give it a four star for being so simplistically formulaic in its presentation, then I thought heck no, easy to access standards and a simple layout are exactly what you want if you are trying to get an accurate quote to a customer. This book is awesome, and the only thing that would improve it would be in a simple same data base that I could query quicker than the book. I'm certain it's out there, and if not I might OCR it into a data base structure that I can use for my own purposes.
