Th is is a great book I love barbeque eating and cooking it as well, this book is well written with clear instructions,the barbeque always turns
out good but one of the hidden gems in this book is the sides and desserts,most of the time in alot og other cookbooks they appear to be after thoughts not this time,this time they are awesome and can stand with any dish you prepare.If you like a well rounded cook book with alot of interesting recipes this book is for you.

Need to buy Dave's BBQ sauce and steak seasoning along with the book to make many recipes as written

Nice looking book; lots of very pretty pictures and interesting looking recipes. However, be aware that if you want to make many of these recipes the way they were intended to be made, you must use Famous Dave's brand of BBQ sauce and/or steak seasoning. (That's why my rating is only 4 stars.)

I was hoping to make them with things I had on hand. I could use a different brand of BBQ sauce and steak seasoning; I might. Luckily, I do have a Famous Dave's restaurant within a mile of my house. I assume they sell their products. (They are fairly new to the neighborhood, so we haven't gone there yet, as we don't eat out much.) If you don't have a Famous Dave's nearby, you might want to consider ordering his BBQ sauce and steak seasoning when you order the cookbook, if you want to make many of the recipes, as they are written, as soon as your book arrives.

Must read for all traders..

As many other reviewers stated, I also wish I had accessed this type of book 20 years ago when I first started trading futures. During this time markets have had ups and downs at different paces. But most important, technology has changed everything. From information access to a whole plethora of products to trade. And Higher Probability Commodity Trading guides you to the process of start trading and beyond.
Being Carley a Pro, she covers in this book all aspects of trading I could think of, and most important, regardless your experience you will always find something worth reading again, or learning for first time, as it happened to me in most chapters.
If you really want to trade futures in this modern era and being in control of your risk/reward outcome while placing your trades, then this book is a must for you!
Read it once and you will revisit some of its chapters sooner than later, regardless your experience in trading.

Very realistic reading content with great insight - a must read for novice and experienced traders.

It is the title that caught my attention. I have had some experience trading commodity futures. I decided to purchase it.
 
Carley's writing stands apart because she has focused on providing her insight throughout the book as she brings in subject matter chapter by chapter in a methodical, incremental and meaningful way. This insight is based on her own experience in Commodity trading.

Second things is: I felt that Carley was there reminding me of the big picture throughout the book (as it is easy to forget it when lost I details) even as she took me through necessary details of technical and fundamental analysis, seasonal tendencies of commodities, commitment of traders reports, trading strategies, heging, risk management, Margin considerations etc,. She has given all the details of trading basics in fact.
 
Next, in addition to giving the background-knowledge (static) for commodity trading Carley has given specific information (dynamic) how to keep up to date with the latest commodity reports, news and analysis by reading what her experience has taught her as the best and most reputed publications like HighTower publication.
 
Carley sheds extra light even on seemingly familiar activities like put writing. It was an eye opener and a very big one at that when I learned that the huge bid/ask spread created on far out of the money put spreads when the stock market melted down in 2015 could have killed traders who sold many such spreads thinking such spreads are safe in that one can always get out in a reasonable way!
 
I feel that Carley's book does complete justice to its title in that provides practical knowledge to recognize high probability trading.
There is also enough subtle humor in the book.
 
Last but not the least I will say there are two whole chapters on tips and tricks and how to use it based on our own personality where she also talks about psychology of trading, ego battles with the market, problems of overtrading and practical tips on how to avoid it, etc,. I loved reading the chapters: 'Thinking outside the Box' and 'The Hidden Gems of Commodity Trading'.
 
I finished reading this book and I must say it has also had a cleansing and detoxifying effect on me and I must say I am lucky to have done it two days before the most watched election.

I wish I'd purchased this book a little earlier. Could have saved myself some stress and financial loss last month, when the market decided to take a dive over the presidential debate. After reading the section on options strategies I realized that I had positioned myself for a loss, from the very beginning if the volatility picked up, and it did! I also learned a lesson, regarding an underfunded account when volatility comes a calling. I got locked into a trade that it took me an hour to get out, with a resulting additional $3k in losses due to the delay. Folks, this danger is very real, I just wish I'd had the information that Carley presents in this book ahead of time. Live and Learn! Just an outstanding book Carley! I hope people pay attention.

My Initial Impressions - UPDATED

I got my a6000 in April as a birthday present. Just purchased this Guide in late August. This is my first Sony camera. My other cameras are Canons. I have not read thru this guide yet, so this is just an "initial impression." I'd like to come back later with a more specific review later after I've used the guide for a month or so.

In scanning thru the book, it seems to be very thorough and well-written, with plenty of plain English explanations and descriptions. Definitely more than just a "manual" that simply tells you what all the buttons and menus mean. It talks about all the buttons, all the menu options, plus much more re how and when to use certain settings etc. Seems to be a good teaching guide in addition to a "user" guide. It's a little over an inch thick -so there is plenty here to read. My first impression is that this will be a very good resource for me. One immediate downside I notice though is that although the pictures on the cover are beautiful color photos (taken with the a6000 I assume), all the actual pictures used as samples to explain items are black and white! The B&W photos don't help very much with the explanations - can't see the nuances that are being explained in the book. Plenty of helpful pictures throughout the book, but you can't get any appreciation of what's being described or explained because the pics are B&W. In my view, this really craters a huge potential value in this book. Aside from the useless B&W photos, the context, tone, method of explanation, and thoroughness all seem top notch. I'm sure I'll still learn a great deal.

I can provide an update now that I've gone through the Guide, grouped in + and - below.

This is a great resource for a6000 owners and I'm changing my rating from 3 stars to 4.

+ Re my original comments about the pics in the Guide being in B&W ... I discovered that the author does indeed provide a free full color PDF version of the book if you send him an email with your receipt attached. Once you download the free color PDF version, you can see all the material in color, including all the sample pics. Can also download the PDF version to your other devices. [This free download is mentioned in the intro pages prior to the Table of Contents, so you may miss it if you are not looking for it.]

+ This not a "pocket guide" by any means. At almost 600 pages, it's pretty thick. But I can't think of any material that was superfluous or irrelevant. Except for a few pages devoted to plugging the author's photography blog and photography seminars, it was all good, useful content provided in a tone focused towards users that are a few steps beyond "beginner." I'll take the few pages of advertising given all the other good, succint, plain language guidance and tips.

+ Extra tips and techniques that apply to digital photography, regardless of camera, are provided in the back.

+ Guide is well-written and provides short explanations, detailed explanations, sample pictures, sample menu screen shots, and tables for quick reference. Every item, button, and menu option is explained in a friendly, understandable manner.

+ I sat down with this Guide, a6000 in hand, and reviewed all my settings while reading the Guide explanations.

-All the page references are off by 2 pages. For example, the Guide (and Index) may refer to an item on page 31, but the actual item being referred to is on page 29. Maybe this was caused by the addition of the 2 intro pages after final edit?

-A couple of instances where the exact same text is repeated on multiple pages. Not sure if this was intentional or not. Repeated text makes it seems like the book was not closely edited.

Great book!

The Sony A6000 manual that comes with the camera is sadly lacking. This book gets into the "secrets" of the camera so an individual can get the most out of the functionality of the camera. I bought the black and white book as it was much cheaper than the color copy. Once you have the B&W version, there is on page ii of the book direction on getting a pdf copy from the author. Great book!

About the Author
Laura Overdeck is the author of Bedtime Math: A Fun Excuse To Stay Up Late, Bedtime Math: This Time It's Personal, and Bedtime Math: The Truth Comes Out. Laura knows a thing or two about numbers. As a kid, she sat and memorized perfect squares for fun, before it was cool. And as a mom, she (along with her husband, John) decided to give their three children math problems alongside bedtime stories, and soon Bedtime Math was born. It has since grown into a nationwide movement to make math cool and to get kids fired up about numbers, sparking Bedtime Math's new after-school math club, Crazy 8s. Laura holds a BA in astrophysics from Princeton University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. Much better text, but 1st-2nd grade gap in difficulty

We have all three Bedtime Math books, and my kids love all of them. I find this one by far the most fun to read since each spread actually has interesting information that answers a question or debunks a myth. The nonfiction mini-essays are informative and entertaining. My main complaint with the first two books was the little essays really said nothing (like two paragraphs about how ketchup is red and would make a mess if you squirted it on someone or whatever). Much improvement on that front!

My only criticism of this book is that there seems to be too great a spread between the first two levels of math problems and the second two. I have a four-year-old and a 7-year-old second grader, and my four-year-old can answer the "wee ones" and "little kids" questions, which are too easy for my second grader, but the "big kids" questions seem to be at an upper elementary level (3rd-5th grade maybe) and often involve multiplication, division, or other skills my 2nd grader hasn't learned yet, so there seems to be a 1st-2nd grade gap in the math problems.

The Definitive Ruby Resource

This is a great, updated version of the now-classic Programming Ruby series from The Pragmatic Programmers. The book is a great reference covering the whole of ruby and many related features. This is the only current Ruby book that attempts to cover everything Ruby. The book is very well organized with topics in outline-form subsections making it easy to pinpoint one's exact learning or reference needs.

Programming Ruby 1.9 & 2.0 reads a lot like O'Reilly's "Definitive Guide" series but is also as usable as a "In a Nutshell" series reference book. I'm very impressed by the way the authors were able to write a detailed but concise (as concise as a huge language like Ruby can be anyway) programming book.

Books to have

This book is centered around snippet code so if you are looking for a cookbook start to finish project book this is not for you. The good side of this story is I have it loaded on my work computer. When I have syntax issues I simply perform a find on the subject. this has proven to be a very productive when working. Between stackoverflow the open community web source, and this book when coding I solve problems quickly. I am a professional Ruby / Ruby on Rails developer. For all those who just know Ruby on Rails you should really learn Ruby. What happens if one of your gems does not work? or gets monkey patched? or just doesn't work? You will be forced to dig deeper and you will need to know Ruby to sort out the R-on-R MVC framework guts.

Trust me I tried just learning Rails years ago, now I know Ruby I am very seldom defeated. If you like this comment get the book GREAT resource.

I needed to learn Ruby in hurry, as there was an urgent need to rewrite a module that was giving trouble in Perl because of a problematic CPAN module. This book gave me all I needed to quickly learn the language and rewrite the module in Ruby.

Atoms and Molecules - The Single Best Reference

I agree with the review of this text given by Robert Brown of Duke University. This text is the most comprehensive, complete and well-written single refernce on atomic and molecular theory that I ever worked with. Although I am not currently publishing in the field, I used it as a graduate student and later for extensive research in computational atomic physics.
It should be republished as soon as possible (Dover, are you listening?) - I, too, cannot believe that it is out of print and so hard to find. I am dying for the original hard copy, which seems to be impossible to find.
Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the book is that it presents an integrated account of angular momentum and other methods of atomic physics that is readable without "swamping" the reader with details and obscure notation. It also presents an excellent bridge between undergraduate quantum theory and relativistic quantum physics. Furthermore, it is an outstanding introduction for those wishing to do serious computational atomic or molecular physics. It does not "dumb down" the physics or mathematics for computational experts and provides a good grounding for those going on to specialize in the area.

Atoms and Molecules as an intro to quantum theory

I can't believe that this book is out of print -- it is a classic.
Quantum Theory is difficult to learn under the best of conditions and with multiple books. Atoms and Molecules is an encyclopediac text on basic quantum theory through what I'd call advanced intermediate level quantum theory, clearly enough written for an undergraduate junior or senior physics major but intended for a graduate student in physics or quantum chemistry.
It has lovely presentations of basic quantum results, angular momentum theory in full detail, perturbation theory, and the basis of quantum chemistry. The first 2/3 of the book are great for physics students. The last 1/3 is more for quantum chemists or physics students interested in molecular and structural physics.
Anyway, all I can say is rats! I'm gonna have to see if I can find a used copy myself. It is an excellent reference and resource for teaching quantum theory and doing theoretical (quantum) physics research, and the library finally took the copy I'd had out for years back!

Excellent book!

This book is fantastically written; clear and concise with very few words, yet it somehow makes sense and remains thorough. I have never found a book that conveys this quantity and quality of information so thoroughly in such a small number of pages. This book completes what I consider the holy trinity for the beginning graduate quauntum chemist: Atoms and Molecues by Weissbluth, Quantum Chemistry by Ira Levine, and Modern Quantum Chemistry: Introduction to Advanced Electronic Structure Theory by Szabo and Ostlund.

For the complete beginner, I recommend reading the first 8 or 9 chapters of Levine first, and taking time to digest them entirely. From there, a student can either finish Levine, read this book, or read Szabo and Ostlund. These three steps can be done in any order or all at the same time as I am doing now. This book brings Levine's book full circle in an elegant sort of a way, shortening concepts and summoning countless "aha" moments.

I have never felt quite as confident as I do now in my capacity to utterly comprehend quantum chemistry. Now I have found the missing link. These three books complement each other so well. Whenever I hit an obstacle in one book where I feel confused, I reference one of the other two books and pass through the obstacle as if through water, as if through air. Do not get overwhelmed if you are a complete beginner. There is a hump that you have to get over, but once you get over it, the process gets easier. The hump entails building a solid foundation upon which build further. The hump also entails being aware of the structure of the three books; how they are written, in what order specific concepts are presented, which formulas are most useful and where they are located, etc. For example, as you read the first chapter of this book, it is useful to have completely read and understood chapter 5 of Levine's book, because you can understand chapter 1 of this book much more quickly and you can go back and extract information from Levine quickly to help while reading this book.

I highly recommend this book as a member of the holy trilogy of quantum chemistry and I highly recommend using my algorithm of how to go about reading the holy trilogy.
