Doubtful at First but Surprised by Hayes Mastery of the Topic

Flawlessly done. A fresh, honest take. I have long been a fan of Chris as a journalist. During his coverage of the uprisings in Ferguson and Baltimore he gained a lot of respect from me, especially considering the poor handling of the events by some other anchors like Don Lemon. But I was still skeptical he could add any new perspective considering his background. I was proven wrong. What a well researched and thoughtful book! A page turner I could not put down! Chris really digs at the root causes of the colony/nation divide. Instead of addressing all of the ills created by slavery, years of institutional racism, and subsequent systemic racism the ruling class just sought to remove those affected by these crimes against humanity from their view. The same forcefulness was not applied to reversing the effects of inequality as were to preserving the status quo for centuries. No efforts were made to integrate newly freed slave into society. No special care was placed on education or economic opportunities in these communities. They were just left to decay. And decay they did with some help from outside intervention. All the while he offers an efficient critique of our criminal justice system, over dependance on incarceration, and the concept of "community policing" as we know it today. While tying in the findings of lengthy reports done by the Department of Justice on Ferguson and Baltimore. I really appreciate hearing all this from Chris I hope he has planted a seed. It should not be the responsibility of the oppressed to educate the masses. Well done!

Hayes has done a wonderful job in this book

Mr. Hayes has done a wonderful job in this book. I could hardly put it down. Very well written, logic is impeccable. A great read. He explains the colony concept from the beginning of this country to today; and it makes so much sense. Where do we go from here? This book will at the very least give everyone much needed insight into hopefully more rewarding discussions. Everyone should get this!

Great Book

This book is brilliant. The author's ability to draw parallels between American colonial rule, or the physical and emotional violence of European colonization of Africa and the Caribbean, is brilliant. He takes a historical perspective and easily weaves between statistical analysis and distributional policy outcomes. Each chapter brings a different perspective, which analyses the the difference between a "black colonial state" and a white nation. The book unpacks criminal justice policy, race relations, housing policy, and economic disparity. I recommend this book to anyone that cares about the American political system and its ability to maintain a fully integrated body politic that continues to live within a social contract between the governing class and the governed (regardless of color).
